The Perry Family: Week One

One of the very first things that newlyweds Britta and Joel Perry wanted to do was christen their living room sofa.

As they worked on that, I checked out Joel's relationships with other Sims in town since he's been a bit of a pest in the Taylor and Davis-Lynch updates - he's currently enemies with Delaina (no surprise, based on how often they get into fights), is very slightly crushing on Delaina's baby mama, Trinity Royal, and apparently has no chemistry with his own wife! What is up with that, difficult Joel?
Of course, the lack of chemistry doesn't seem to be causing any problems right now...

This is their adorable little Victorian house. It's the nicest house in all of Sunset Bay right now...

...which is why is it pretty much all they own. There aren't any stairs leading upstairs yet because they don't have the money to furnish it at all, and so far the living room is the only thing that has anything in it - which obviously isn't much.

Britta immediately starts working on adding to their funds by trying her hand at artwork, even though her outfit is much too fancy to get paint on it - oh, to be a Sim who doesn't have to worry about ruining their clothes when painting.

Joel, meanwhile, headed outside to see what he could dig up in their front yard.
Joel: This is an unknown land - there could be gold or oil or something else in the ground that could make us rich!
Or, you know, you might just find dog bones and rocks.

Joel proved me wrong, though, when he managed to find a treasure chest, all without hitting a waterpipe!
Joel: Urgh, hard work makes me smelly. Maybe I should let Britta do all the hard work from now on.
*rolling my eyes so much right now* You poor baby.

Is Britta being a neat freak or is she cleaning up after a little morning sickness?

As if you had to guess! Yes, Britta is a happy little Family Sim who already has a little one on the way.

And what is her loving husband doing while she grows a baby inside her and tries to make more money with flower arranging? Why, he's dreaming about Trinity Royal.

*glares* Um, just what are you dreaming about right now, Joel?

Serves you right, having a nightmare about Delaina.

Obviously the nightmare didn't stay on his mind for long, though - soon, Joel was out gossiping about her with Trinity Royal. *sigh* Joel, what am I going to do with you?

And just what is Joel doing out at the only community lot, a little restaurant owned by the city, with a single woman who is not his wife? Why, he's trying to fulfill some of his wants, of course - the romantic ones. You know, with someone who is not his wife.

No, Delaina, don't get mad at Trinity (even if she is your baby mama going out with your enemy that you're furious with), get mad at the jerky Joel instead! He's the one who is married!

Neither of them seemed to care too much what Delaina thought, though, and they soon took their date outside onto a public park bench. *shakes head sadly* You are in public! Your wife might be hungry (since, you know, she's pregnant) and in the mood to eat out!

Trinity feels a bit conflicted about the whole thing - part of her wants to take their relationship to the next level, but another part is terrified of getting into a committed relationship with a guy who's already proved that he doesn't care that much about his marriage vows.

And Joel just gets drunk rather than deal with the difficult and adulterous situation.

And meanwhile, Britta is at home, continuing to be pregnant with your child.

Um, Trinity, I really don't think this is the best time.
Trinity: Maybe he's already dumped his wife!
Oh, Trinity honey, I worry about you sometimes.

Joel decided to do two stupid things: one, he didn't even bother hiding the bouquet of flowers, which you can still see on the porch right next to the door, and two, he invited Trinity over. And just what was Britta doing at this very moment?

Why, she was in labor (of course - how else to make things worse?)!

Meet little Remy Perry, who has all of her mother's genetics as well as her father's blond hair - because obviously Britta hasn't been entertaining other Sims who would give Remy a different hair color.

Britta decided to head downstairs to see why her husband hadn't been with her throughout the pain of child labor.
Um, I don't think you two should be smiling right now...

*drama!*

Britta: How could you do this to me - and while I was giving birth to our child!
Joel: I honestly didn't think you would be mad - I thought you liked having some time to yourself without me bothering you!

Britta: Even if I believed you, that is an awful excuse for cheating on me. I don't think I can even look at you for a while - you need to get out now.
Joel: What?!

Joel: She kicked me out! She actually did it! I can't believe this!
I can - I really don't feel sorry for you.

Stop trying to look cute - it's really not working, especially when you're moving out while still in your underwear.

Britta is quite ready to move on, though.

And I'm glad to see that her breakup is actually a positive memory - she's glad to be done with jerky Joel!

But that doesn't mean that's she's totally happy with her new life.

I decided Britta deserved a small makeover to help her shake things up, but her anger wasn't quite ready to disappear.

Life moves on, however, and soon it was Remy's birthday. After missing her birth, it's no surprise that Joel isn't around for her first birthday either - Britta still isn't ready to let him back into the house, even for a short visit.

Luckily she has Remy to brighten her day!

And, after searching for many, many long days, Britta found Craig Ray, someone who has awful fashion sense but could be the one to help her get over her jerky ex.

Wow, try not to look too excited about moving in to a ready-made family, Craig.
And yay, more money! After selling that treasure chest and still working on paintings and flower arranging, Britta has been slowly furnishing her home, but more money is always helpful, of course.

Joel decided now is the perfect time to sneak back to his old house in the cover of night to knock over the trash can.
Joel: They'll never know it was me!
Britta: Joel, I can hear you. I'm right behind you.
Joel: *pauses* No you can't.
*shaking my head in sadness* Oh, Joel, you're never going to survive on your own next week, are you?

Britta, that's an odd thing to be thinking about while you're looking at your naked boyfriend taking a shower.

Britta: I could always take a baseball to his window. I heard he's moved into a duplex on the other side of town.
Craig: Hmm, I don't know about that. It might be better to just skate on by without thinking about Joel anymore.
You two have odd ways of attempting to get each other into bed.

*chimes*

Even if Britta has a new bundle of joy eventually on the way, Remy will always be the apple of her eye, even if her father is jerky Joel. Even though Britta is spending more time with Craig, she always has time to bond with the adorable Remy.

That's it for the Perry household this week! Obviously there were a lot of changes, and those changes might be reflected in the next hosuehold - the Thatcher-Royals!

Notes:
- can you guess where I got Joel and Britta's names from? If not, check out the Wikipedia page for the awesome Community...
- next week, there'll be two Perry households - Britta, Remy, & Craig and Joel; I'm not sure how I'll do that, like if I'll say Perry I and Perry II or whatever, but I'll try to separate the two. Joel has already moved into a duplex on his own, and since I'll play Britta first and Remy will grow up into a child during her update, I might have Remy visit her dad on the weekend or something for shared custody or something. I'll have to see how I feel once I'm actually playing them.
- Joel's affair was a combination of my interference and Joel's own wants: when I saw that Joel didn't have any chemistry with Britta while he had one bolt for Trinity, I started to think about shaking things up; I had him go on an outing with Trinity to see what would happen and ACR took over, so I let it happen because Joel's bad behavior in previous updates seemed like a sign that he wasn't the best husband around; and then, after their successful date, I had Joel invite Trinity over to see what would happen, and I might have given him a nudge just because I wanted to see some drama. ;) But really, is Joel the type of guy that sweet Britta should be married to anyway?
